Huawei's Latest Laptops: A Dynamic Duo of Power and Performance

Matebook X Pro

This is the 2024 model of the Matebook X Pro, and you might be wondering what's been upgraded since the last one. Well, it's even lighter, at just 1.3Kg. When I picked it up the first time, I was surprised at how incredibly lightweight it was.

To reduce weight, Huawei has equipped the X Pro with a 3:2 120Hz Flexible OLED display, which looks amazing but also helps to reduce weight. Huawei has used a unique architecture titled Cloud Falcon, which is a very catchy name.

This architecture allows the PCB to be more compact, which also helps to reduce the overall weight whilst keeping a display size similar to the previous model. It's impressive. If you're used to carrying heavy laptops daily, you'll appreciate the Matebook X pro's design and portability the most.

There are different models, but this new version comes in a light blue shade with a matte finish. And it isn't a fingerprint magnet. It's a really nice texture… which is a nice touch.

The keyboard has also been upgraded and is more comfortable than before. And the keys have a satisfying tactile feel to it. The trackpad is a good size, precise, and very responsive. Under the hood, it has a brand-new heat dissipation system, With upgraded Dual Shark Fin fans that allow for 40% better airflow.

Despite its lightweight nature, it is even more powerful than before. And before we get into performance and battery, let me show you the display.

The Display

The 91% screen-to-body ratio is nice. The Matebook X Pro has a 14.2" 2.8K OLED, with nearly 80% more pixels than previous model displays. Unlike Apple's similar-sized laptops, it is a touchscreen, which can be very handy when you need to do lots of scrolling and swiping.

The panel supports a Wide colour gamut: 100% sRGB, 100% P3, and 95% Adobe RGB, for colour accuracy, which is ideal if you need to edit photos & videos on the go.

It's also TÜV Rheinland Eye Comfort 2.0 certified and has 1920 PWM dimming for eye protection. The brightness reaches up to 450 nits, so when you're not working into the early hours of the morning like I do most days... and you get to see some sunlight, the display will still be easily viewable.

Performance

Now, let's talk about performance and power on this lap. It is powered by the Intel Core Ultra i9 processor. Again, there are a few versions out there, but this one is backed up by 32GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 2TB of SSD storage, which is a vast amount of storage.

The amount of RAM is also ridiculously large for such a small, light laptop. Thanks to this, the Matebook X Pro can easily handle daily tasks without breaking a sweat. It can handle slightly heavier tasks like photo editing and basic video editing. And even though it's not a gaming laptop, you can do light gaming on it.

Connectivity has also been improved with an all-new Metaline antenna, making Wi-Fi connections more stable even when in busy environments. And it does support Wi-Fi 6, And the audio here is also pretty damn impressive with its six-speaker sound system.

This, of course, makes it perfect for watching movies and YouTube videos like this one. For those times when you actually have to do some work and participate in conference calls, there is a four-mic array for crystal-clear audio calls, and of course, it has a webcam at the top of the display for video calls. They both use AI to make the conference call experience smoother.

Power

Now, what's the point of all this tech without a good power supply? Huawei has equipped the Matebook X Pro with a 70-watt-hour battery and a 90-watt fast charger in the box, allowing rapid recharges. The battery can deliver up to 19 hours of continuous video playback.

So, if you want a laptop with amazing portability without sacrificing performance, the Matebook X Pro is worth considering. It is indeed a Super Device.

Now, if you want even more portability, only need to use word processing software, and sometimes attend conference calls, the new Huawei Mate Pad X Pro may be precisely what you need.
