Samsung Galaxy A54 - Better than the S23 in some ways!

The Samsung Galaxy A54 5G is here! If you're looking to buy one, you should get a close look at the colours & design changes. Above is the video that you are looking for. In this video, you will learn three good reasons to buy one. Take a look & see what you think ;)

There are several good reasons why many people might see the Galaxy A54 as a better option than the flagship Samsung Galaxy S23 line. And that is what I am going to highlight for you here.

First, let's run through the new colours and design upgrades. There are four options there is graphite, violet, lime & white. All of these are awesome...that's not my opinion. That's Samsung's description of colours. They all look good, if you were wondering. I particularly like the colour lime.

The back casing of the A54 devices is glass, essentially which and it does have its advantages. The glass back adds a premium touch when it comes to look and feel. This design choice also allows radio waves can pass through with less resistance, resulting in potentially better wifi and mobile data speeds.

The glass on the front is a respectable Corning Gorilla glass 5, which is durable and scratch resistant.

Awesome Display

For the price point, the display on the A54 is pound-for-pound, one the best in the mid-range smartphone business. Samsung has managed to keep the bezels quite slim all the way around. The chin has a slightly thicker bezel, which is not uncommon for more affordable phones. This is usually results from where the manufacturer has to make space for the ribbon from the display to the motherboard.

The display is, of course, provided by Samsung Display & is a Super AMOLED. It's a 6.4-inch display with 401 pixels per inch. It also supports 120HZ and can intelligently adapt the frame rate between 60 and 120. And it's bright too. Its peak brightness is 1000 nits. This was considered flagship levels of brightness not so distant past.

And to make things even brighter and shinier, The Samsung One UI software brings Samsungs vision booster to the table. This optimises the screen based on your usage. And when I looked at the Galaxy A54 5G side by side with the Galaxy S23 Ultra, I can tell you it hold's it's own and when it comes to colours and clarity.

Awesome Battery

As you know, phones have yet to run on water...yet. And with speed and power, not much can be achieved. And the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G is strong in both areas.

It's got a 5000mAh battery and Exynos 1380 nm chipset. Simply put, the smaller the nm manufacturing process, the more power efficient it can be.

Now I know what you might be thinking. I just told you about the 120hz display and 1000 peak brightness. Surely that would drain the power more quickly?

Well, consider this. The battery cell is the same size as the one found in the Galaxy S23 ultra...which has a much bigger, pixel-dense, brighter display. The A54 display is smaller and less pixel-dense, and because of that, it doesn't need as many pixels to look just as good as the S23 ultra.

And what I'm getting at here is that the A53's battery is a powerhouse and will easily last you all day. Samsung says it can last up 21hrs of continuous video playback.

One thing to remember is that the fastest charging speed supported is 25 watts and it will ship with no charger in the box. If you want my charger recommendation, I'll link my best accessories video at the end... You'll find it interesting.

Awesome Software - One UI 5.0

One of Samsungs most significant advantages when it comes to mobile phones is the guaranteed four years of android software updates. Many manufacturers only provide two or three.

So of the box, you'll be on android 13, and the Galaxy A54 could take you to Android 17

So if you don't like to upgrade every year and want to hold on to your device for more than a couple of years, your device security will be safe, and you'll also be able to run the most up-to-date software.

And for me, when it comes to android. The stock android experience you get from the Pixel devices is fantastic, but how much more you can do with the Samsungs One UI5 platform is incredible. To see what I mean, I made a video about that. Here it is

Camera & Memory

Now two areas that are important and sometimes the most important when it comes to smartphones are the camera and storage. Regarding storage, the ROM ( Storage ) options are either 128GB or 256GB UFS 3.1, but the good news and a massive advantage over the S23 series are that the sim tray is known as a hybrid sim tray. This means there is space for an SD card & you can expand the storage up to 1TB. This is a stand-out feature that I wish I had mentioned in the video. And if you were wondering about RAM ( random access memory ), which is used for multitasking and general speediness, both variants have LPDDR4X, just one tier below the flagship level.

Now let's talk about the camera hardware. Unfortunately, I didn't get much chance to play around with the cameras during the hands-on, so let me know if you'd like to see a video testing them out. The camera setup is a triple shooter. With an impressive 50MP primary, 12MP ultra-wide and 5MP macro and on the flip side, there's a centrally placed camera cut out 32MP in-display selfie. It all looks pretty awesome on paper...but we shall see. Make sue you bookmark this website and subscribe to the WhatGear channel for more Samsung updates and camera tests. See you in the next one...don't be late.
