Samsung Galaxy S23 Colours & Design Upgrades
/So I've been lucky enough to be invited to Samsung KX ahead of the launch. So I made this video to get a closer look at the new colours of the galaxies. So let's put these under a microscope and get a close-up and personal look at all the fine details & design upgrades so that you can pick the perfect hue for you. And at the end of this video, let me know which colour is your favourite.
Let's start with the Green and compare it side-by-side to my green S22 ultra from last year. As you can see, the colour is quite different from the S22. It's slightly lighter, with a bit of yellow in the mix, giving it this misty green look.
As the leaksters predicted, you can see the difference in the sizes of the lenses now. They are larger in diameter. Bigger optics equals better light gathering. Also, the lenses protrude less this year. So this is a physical upgrade to the camera system. But there are so much more camera improvements going on behind the scenes. I'll show you that in another video.
The side button and placements are slightly adjusted, and now the tip of the thumb can more easily hit the power key. The soft part of the thumb now sits perfectly across the volume rocker and can rock more comfortably back and forth to adjust the audio levels.
Now, this is something I didn't see coming. The curved screen is less curved now, which is a welcomed upgrade. It wasn't bad on the S22 ultra, but I must admit that some accidental touches occasionally occurred a few times in the last year, causing the screen to lock.
So the flatter display might help reduce that. It will also reduce any warping of photos and videos at the edges, not that I noticed that at all on the S22, to be honest. Also, less curvature on the display may help people jump off the Apple cart with their flat screens and try out the alternative. It may be a bit less of a learning curve to adjust to a new screen. See what I did there.
The stylus design is identical to the S22 ultra with the matching colour on the button and everything else black. Speakers, SIM trays, and mics are all in the same place. The punch hole cutout for the camera is the same, and the antenna placements are adjusted so maybe we will see an improvement when it comes to WiFi 6E & 5G Sub-6. We’ll have to wait and see.
And on this new green variant, the armour aluminium frame matches the green mist colour, but it is shiny, which raises the question about fingerprints. I will do an official side-by-side fingerprint test on four, so stick around. And here's a quick look at the new camera module on the regular S22. It's just the lenses now with no plastic or glass around them. A significant improvement!
Ok, now the Lavender, which is a light purple colour. It's pastel purple, which gives it a delicate look. The light rolls off the back without causing a harsh glare, just a nice gentle glow. It's subtle, elegant, classy…all are words that have never been used to describe me, but this Lavender Galaxy S23 is that.
The buttons and bezels are slightly glossy. The Lavender armour aluminium frame is also polished & it accents the top and the bottom of the display nicely, which is less noticeable on the green model.
I like Lavender… but it isn't my favourite. I shall explain. But for now, let's move on to the only phone with an adjective ahead of the colour name. That word is Phantom, and the colour is black. And the definition of a Phantom, according to the Oxford dictionary, is a ghost, and ghosts are white and black is not actually a colour. So maybe the word phantom represents the lack of colour…the colour has left its body like a ghost.
Ok, I'm looking way too deep into this. There is a slight chance that Samsung has been inspired by MKBHD's car.
I will say this does not look like your regular boring black phone. It's matt black and has a satin finish, giving it a soft touch & a fierce look. When the light hits the back, you can see orbs of grey, which I think look pleasing & much better than your average black phone.
And check this out. Random fact. Did you know that 12 of the components on the new S23 devices are manufactured using recycled materials? You would never think it just by looking at it. The Phantom Black looks so premium and expensive… and yes, yes, it is… but I think it's worth it…and I will be selling the shirt off my back to buy one… eBay link in the description.
Ok, I'll save this one until last. It's the beige model. This is the S23 colour that I feel most drawn to this year. Last year with my green S22 ultra, I did rock a few different dark-coloured cases, but in the end, I liked this light grey leather official Samsung case the most. Yes, It is quite beaten up now & it has seen better days...like me!
But what I'm getting at here is that I like the contrasting light and dark. And there is a good chance that once I can afford to buy a new shirt, I will pick up a dark-coloured case knowing that if I want to at any point, I could switch up the look.
Yes, you could say the same thing about all of the S23, but in my opinion, this one looks the best naked. And on that note, let's wrap this up.
