Sony Bravia A95K Price - Why it's going to be so expensive!

So if you're wondering what the new QD OLED Sony A95K price will be. One thing is for sureā€¦ it's gonna cost you a pretty penny, and that's because it's got a stunning panel. In fact, this new Quantum Dot OLED tech just might be the very best tv display ever made.

But to understand why this new Quantum Dot OLED tech is worth the thousands of pounds that it will cost & why I think Sony has rolled the dice a little bit when they invested in this. We have to go back to 2007 when Sony first released their technology called Triluminos, which they stopped producing around 2009. The reason for this was that production costs were too high.

In 2012 Samsung unveiled the worlds first OLED TV... but they immediately stopped manufacturing it. Presumably, because the cost of production was just too high.

Then in 2013, two critical things happened. Sony revived & revitalised their LED Trilumos tech... only this time there was something different. This was the first introduction of quantum dot LED TV displays. The same technology that Samsung still markets today as QLED, which a lot of people see as a rival To OLED, thanks to Samsungs clever marketing.

To simplify what the Triluminos quantum dot tech is. Think of it as an advanced filter over the LED backlighting found in a display. This thin layer houses phosphorescent crystals that react to blue light. To create red or green colours & this layer can also let blue light through. And it's this reaction that allows QD panels to have a wider colour gamut...and one main advantage that QD LED displays has over OLED is peak brightness, and you don't have to worry about screen burn-in.

In the same year, 2013, LG launched a new OLED panel with a white organic light-emitting diode & they patented it. This new WRGB display could switch off individual pixels with no light bleed. LG's new OLED tech brought unparalleled contrast to the table, as well as better picture accuracy and power efficiency. LG has been the dominant force in the OLED TV display game...until now

Now here's where the game is about to change. Enter Samsung Display with a combination of QLED tech and OLED tech. By combing the Quantum dot layer with organic light-emitting diodes. We now have the new breed and next-generation QD OLED displays.

Now that the White organic light-emitting diode is no longer needed. Thanks to the QD layer, 'Samsung display' can now use an organic Blue OLED backlighting method & it's this combined with the Quantum Dot crystals. That results in a much wider colour gamut than on WRGB OLEDs.

So QD OLED panels will have deeper reds & greens, better peak luminance and superior viewing angles. And thanks to the nature of the Blue OLED backlighting, & a heatsink, the chances of screen burn-in have been massively reduced.

So enter Sony's first OLED with the new title of XR Triluminos MAX display. Its a QD OLED.

Here's the problem, though. The manufacturing of this new QD OLED technology isn't easy. It's rumoured that the yield is around a third. Imagine you own a cake shop, and for every 10 cakes, you bake you have to throw at least six of them...how do you stay in business? Simply, you have to charge more for those that make it through...

This is why Sony's QD OLED will carry a high price tag. I think this could be a gamble for Sony is because if Samsung Display decides that this QD OLED isn't financially viable soon...who knows. Maybe, they could stop manufacturing OLED's and go back to focusing on QD mini-led displays instead.

But if that happens, that could make these screens even more desirable. Kind of like a limited edition.

Here are my thoughts on why Sony are the first to adopt this new tech. The Sony Bravia A90J is widely considered the best OLED TV of 2021. Sony's expertise & experience in the entertainment industry from the ground up is impressive. Cameras, image sensors, Playstation, motion pictures...Cobra Kai. They do it all.

And I think they genuinely want to deliver the best picture quality humanly possible on a TV... no matter the cost. And that's why my guestimate for the pricing on the new 55" & 65" A95K is £5500 & £7000 respectively...

When they reveal the official prices, feel free to come back and mock me in the comments... and if I'm right, make sure you come back to this video and let me know.
