UFC Teixeira Vs Evans - WhatGear Event Review/Recap

So it was certainly a night of entertaining fights from the world's leading fight promotion. We saw some awesome back and forth battles stunning KO’s and surprising submission finishes.

The highlights of the night for me was definitely the main event. I remember the disappointed of seeing the Ice man Chuck Liddel losing by devastating KO by the hands of Evans. And as it seems history repeats itself with Glover delivering an equally devastating blow to the former champs chin. The question now is can Sugar bounce back to contender status or is sentenced to a career as a UFC gate keeper?

Rose Namajunas put in a stellar performance raising the profile of women's MMA even further. She is definitely a rising star capable of bringing much needed eyes to the women's strawweight division. Could she be champ…?

It was sad to see the resilient Court McGee put away with a KO. I believe it was his 10 anniversary of being sober. The good news is I guess he still has that to celebrate as well as the victory of his team mate Teixera.

Michael Chiesa submitted an awesome performance to the nights  fights. By submitting the highly touted Beniel Darioush with a seriously painful looking neck crank. Putting immense pressure across the jaw of the Brazilian black belt Darioush.

All in all & undercard which included a magical knock out from the Magician John Dodson it was a eventful event to behold. Definitely one to check out on fightpass.

How could I forget to mention the man who some say is the uncrowned champ of the lightweight division Khabib Nurmagomedov. Who returns after a 2 year lay off to take a tough opponent... although a new fighter in the UFC who did put up a good fight, but to be honest never really stood a chance. Does Khabib get a title shot coming off the back of a win to an unknown? who knows... post your thoughts below.

And if you get a chance check out this video of WhatGear at the UFC London event earlier this year!

It was an epic event, check it out and let me know what you think?

UFC Brisbane - The Super Samoan walks away with the Victory

Certainly another great night of fights in the at UFC FIGHT NIGHT BRISBANE. At the top to the card we saw the King of the walk-off KO’s…walk off with another KO. You guys know I am a bit of a Jedi right? Take a little listen back to my fight predictions on the WhatGear UFC Podcast.

So I wasn’t surprised to see Mark Hunt take the victory early. It was quite clear that Frank Mir wanted to take this to the ground. In doing so he repeatedly started to change levels bringing his head low. It was just a matter of time before the Super Samoan got his timing. He clipped him behind the ear which completely rocked Mir and separated him from his senses. It was another sterling performance from Mr Hunt. He’s now walking off into the sunset looking for a new challenge.

Another epic battle of the night the co-main event. Once again if you listen back to the WhatGear UFC podcast predictions. You might have heard me say if Magny could stick and move he could find his way to a victory which he did. As well as rebounding from some serious adversity. It was a shocking defeat for the Aussie fan favourite Hector Lombard who lost in round 3 by TKO. Credit to Hector thought, he hung in there for as long as humanly possible.

Among other note worthy performances, Aussie native Daniel Kelly the heavy underdog took on TUF winner Antonio Carlos Junior. Kelly emerged the victor with amazing show of heart and determination. A really exciting fight with an unexpected result. Definitely worth a watch! Check it out on UFC FIGHTPASS.

UFC Podcast #3 - McGregor Vs Diaz - As we thought? After thoughts on a well fought fight

"To weight cut...or not to weight cut...that is a question?" TR

So you guys know I'm a bit of a Jedi right? If not you need to have a quick listen to the last 10 mins of the WhatGear UFC Podcast #2 .

Prior to the main event at UFC 196 I was incredibly surprised to see 12-1 odds on Diaz to win. I think there is an explanation for this.

Really these odds are a testament to what Connor has done for the Sport. Similar to what Rhonda Rousey was able to achieve prior to McGregor. He has successfully brought fresh eyes to the Sport. Which seems to have extended all the way to bookies unfamiliar with MMA.

If you are an old school fan of the UFC you will be familiar with the Diaz brothers status in MMA. Nate's historic strengths are his Cardio, Boxing and World class Ju-Jitsu. The only possible weakness to be considered in Nate Diaz’s game Is his wresting. Although this has never posed a big problem for him. As his offence from his (Ju-jitsu) guard is to be feared. That is why many long-standing fans of the sport will agree with Nate's winning comment “I am not surprised”.

This fight was no walk in the park for Diaz or a game of “touch butt” for McGregor. By the second round Diaz had taken a lot of heavy hits to the face. If you were to judge the fight on damage at the end of round one. You would score it for McGregor. Many expected the KO and this fight definitely goes to show...you never know.

Connor talks a good game and has an amazing fight game, and delivers the fights that people want to see. That’s exactly why you need to watch this UFC196 and future fights featuring the Notorious McGregor.
