Sony RX100 VI Camera - Top 5 NEW Features

So if you're wondering whether it is worth upgrading your old Sony RX100 compact camera to the latest version the RX100 MK6, then you better know what you are paying for. Especially when you consider the Sony RX100 V is now basically half the price.

I've used older versions of the epic RX100 camera in the past & more recently I've been using the Sony RX100 VI on my travels. I even time out of my precious holiday time to make a WhatGear YouTube video finding out how the Huawei P20 Pro's triple lens camera faired against the mighty RX100 Mark 6. The results were actually REALLY interesting. Click this link if you want to check it out the video: Smartphone Vs Compact Camera.

So back to the reasons why you might seriously want to consider the RX100 2018 model, here a 5 Top new features of the Sony RX100 VI compact camera.

1. Electronic EVF - One Touch Feature

Previous versions of the RX100 all had this & I must admit it's a really awesome feature, being able to look down the viewfinder to get a closer look at how you shot is composed. This is especially helpful when you want to get your subject in focus or get that really nice Bokeh (blurry background effect). Older versions of Sony's compact powerhouse required you to pop up the OLED EVF and pull it towards you before you can use it. Sony has now designed the new electronic viewfinder to pop up and extend towards you in one fluid motion. When you pop the EVF it will automatically turn on the camera like before, and when you push it down it will switch off... like before. It's just a bit easier now, just one touch. I don't get much easier than that.

2. Improved Continuous Shooting Feature

The Sony RX100V had an epic 150 shots at 24FPS. With the new RX100 mark 6 Sony have stepped it up again. This version now supports 233 shots at 24 frames per second. This combined with the amazing autofocus capabilities of the RX100 range makes this perfect for capturing those fleeting moments. For example sports or weddings ect. Beware though...use this feature too much your going to find your memory card full very quickly.

3. 90 degrees downward LCD

So this camera is just so awesome because of how small it is. Many consider this to be the best compact camera for bloggers. I would agree. This feature is an awesome addition because now you can shoot directly downward while still being able to see perfectly what you are shooting. The LCD still flips 90 degrees upward like before for those all-important selfies, but this new feature means you can now take even better pictures of your food for example...now that I ever do that ;)

4. Touch screen capabilities

So this feature...I really feel like Sony are holding back on. As is one other major feature I'll mention at the end. Touchscreen tech has evolved so much but for some reason, Sony has taken the slow lane with this one. However...good news! We finally have touchscreen capabilities on the Sony RX100 mk6.  They are quite limited but you can now focus your photo using the LCD and even snap photos. So that's a good thing, I just wish Sony would allow us to navigate the menus too.

5. New Zoom - Zeiss 24mm to 200mm lens

So some of you may like this new feature & some may not. If you're looking for a slightly better depth of field photo, then maybe you should stick with your Sony RX100 V. However if capturing beautiful images from further away is your thing then this should make your eyes light up. During my time using the Sony RX100 VI, I must say I was really impressed. The zoom feature is super smooth and even on maximum zoom, the photos look like you were standing right next to the subject. Really awesome.

Could it be Better?

So that's my top 5 new features, there are loads more of cool stuff I could mention about this camera but for the sake of not making this too long I won't. I'll just say this, in my opinion, this is the best point and click camera right now. There are just two things Sony really need to do to make this better for a UK tech YouTuber like me...add more features to the touchscreen & for the love of god add in a mic jack!
